The first operation of horizontal well packing and one-trip multi-zone gravel pack sand control well completion for deep-water semi-submersible platforms
In August 2021, a multi-zone gravel packing sand control operation was successfully completed for a certain well in Hainan, operated by CNOOC on a semi-submersible drilling platform. This marked the successful practical application of this sand control technology from self-elevating drilling platforms to semi-submersible drilling platforms. The well was provided with a one-trip multi-zone gravel packing sand control tool and technical services by Ruifeng.
Affected by the rise and fall of the semi-submersible platform, it was difficult to accurately determine the positioning of the downhole tools, and the packing process was prone to cause the sealing of the sand control tools to shift, resulting in sand control failure. The technical team of Ruifeng proposed a series of countermeasures based on the characteristics of the semi-submersible platform, overcoming difficulties such as the positioning of downhole sand control tools and the requirements for pipe fitting accuracy.
