The first application of small-sized water control secondary completion and packing technology for old offshore wells
In December 2023, the horizontal well packing operation of the small-sized AICD water control screen was completed successfully. This well was a horizontal well renovation project. After secondary perforation inside the original well screen, a small-sized AICD water control screen was lowered, followed by the packing of ultra-light ceramic gravel for sand control. It faced challenges such as large leakage, high friction, and difficulty in reverse well flushing. After thorough communication with the client, the team proposed relevant risks and countermeasures. Eventually, the packing efficiency reached over 100%, and the water content decreased by 8% within one week after the well was opened. This achieved initial success and became the first implementation case of 2 small-sized AICD water control screen gravel packing and completion in the offshore. It provided a new direction for water control treatment of old wells and opened up a new growth point for the offshore of Rui Feng.
